Advert in the Salisbury Journal, 14 Jan 1765

‘The White Hart Inn. Called The Hut on Salisbury Plain. RICHARD AND ELIZABETH MILLS (Many Years Servants at the Star and Garter Inn at Andover) beg Leave to acquaint the Public, that they have taken the above Inn, being the Halfway-House ( on The Great Western Post Road) from Salisbury to Shaftesbury. At the said Inn, by its agreeable Situation, affords a great Convenience to the Travellers on the Road, and they are determined to spare no Cost, and to use their utmost Diligence to oblige all those, who shall favour them with their Commands, humbly hope to meet with favourable Encouragement. Post Chaise and Saddle Horse as usual. N.B. The London and Exeter Machine calls here every Day of the Week – Great Care will be taken of Parcels and Game’
